SUMMER TOUR STARTS JUNE 17
GREEN DAY have confirmed two TV appearances in connection with their upcoming summer concert tour: they'll perform their current single "Waiting" on Tonight Show with Jay Leno (Wednesday, June 13) and Late Night with Conan O'Brien (Thursday, June 28), the day after their sold-out show at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom. The explosive punk rockers will continue their high profile on TV as the subjects of their own VH1 "Behind The Music" special, debuting July 15.
GREEN DAY--BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG, MIKE DIRNT and TRE' COOL--will soon hit the road for what's sure to be an unforgettable summer tour beginning June 17 in St. Paul, Minnesota. The trek will take the unpredictable group through 25 North American cities, ending August 5 in the Bay area. In a recent Rolling Stone, BILLIE JOE gave fans a preview of what to expect at the shows: "We want to have people throw out requests. The main person that forgets how to play them is Tre. He's like, 'How does that song start?' and it's like, 'One, two, three, four, go!' And then he's like, 'Oh, yeah, that's how all our songs start.'"
Gearing up for their headlining trek, GREEN DAY have played a few radio shows around the country that have earned wildly enthusiastic crowd response and critical praise. In a review of their May 26 Boston performance, Steve Morse of The Boston Globe (May 28) noted: "Green Day scored with its antihero, antiauthority punk, firing up the mosh pit and adding some bizarre theatrics with a gonzo two-man horn section..."Elsewhere, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette (May 28) reported: "When it came time to taking the crowd to paradise, no band did a better job than Green Day...Leading off with 'Welcome To Paradise,' Green Day proved to still be the undisputed San Francisco treat when it comes to unrelenting urgency and unabashed bratty behavior."
