GREEN DAY ANNOUNCE SUMMER TOUR DATES STARTING JUNE 17;
BAND SHOOT VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE WAITING, WHICH THEYLL PERFORM
THURSDAY, APRIL 26 ON THE LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN
As
their new WARNING single Waiting
makes its presence felt at radio, GREEN
DAY have announced theyll hit the road for a leg of summer dates
beginning June 17 in St. Paul, Minnesota. The explosive and unpredictable group
have invited Australian punk band The Living End to open the trek that will take
them through 13 Northeast cities, ending July 3 in Pittsburgh. Before the tour
begins, GREEN DAY will perform Waiting Thursday, April 26 on the Late
Show with David Letterman. Theyll also be seen Saturday, April 28
performing Blood, Sex and Booze--another song from their platinum album WARNING
(Reprise)--on late-nights outrageous Mad TV. That track is also
featured in the new Tom Green film Freddy Got Fingered and the soundtrack
album (Restless). While in New York City to perform on Letterman, GREEN
DAY will make an appearance Thursday, April 26 on the Howard Stern Show.
Meanwhile,
GREEN DAY--BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG, TRE COOL and MIKE DIRNT--were in Los Angeles
recently to shoot a video with director Marc Webb for Waiting, the
follow-up to the Top Five Modern Rock single Warning and the #1
Minority. At the heart of Waiting are BILLIE JOEs hard-earned,
clear-sighted lyrics: I've been waiting a long time/For this moment to come/I'm destined for
anything at all.
Having
just completed a sold-out tour of Japan, GREEN DAY--BILLIE
JOE ARMSTRONG, MIKE DIRNT and TRE
COOL--will return to the American road for the second time this year. At a
tour stop in Houston earlier this year, Michael Clarks Houston Chronicle
review noted: "GREEN DAY has never
released a concert album or a greatest-hits package, but all must have left this
show wishing they would. One doesn't realize how many hits this band has had
until it plays them back to back. Let's put it this way: As with all great punk
music, GREEN DAY's songs are an average of three minutes long. On this night the
band played for two hours, and almost every one of the songs had been on the
radio at one time or another."
